Chris Hemsworth Reveals Missed Opportunity in “Mad Max: Fury Road” Audition

In a recent interview with Chris Hemsworth, known for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, opened up about his aspirations to join the iconic “Mad Max” franchise.

Hemsworth disclosed that prior to landing his role in the upcoming prequel “Furiosa,” he had set his sights on portraying the titular character, Max Rockatansky, in the 2015 film “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

Reflecting on his journey, Hemsworth revealed that the opportunity to audition for “Mad Max: Fury Road” coincided with his final days on the Australian soap opera “Home and Away.”

However, despite his enthusiasm, he faced challenges in securing an audition, lamenting, “[I] couldn’t even get a call or a meeting or anything.” At the time, Hemsworth believed he lacked the experience to warrant consideration for such a significant role, especially in the pre-Marvel era of 2010.

Ultimately, the role of Max Rockatansky was awarded to Tom Hardy, while Hemsworth went on to achieve worldwide recognition as the God of Thunder in the “Thor” and “Avengers” franchises. Nevertheless, Hemsworth’s admiration for director George Miller’s visionary work persisted, prompting him to express his desire to collaborate with Miller in the future.

Following his viewing of “Fury Road,” Hemsworth was captivated by Miller’s genius and resolved to work with him, leading to his involvement in “Furiosa.”

“Furiosa,” set to hit theaters on May 24, serves as a prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Road,” exploring the backstory of Charlize Theron’s character, Furiosa. In the film, Hemsworth portrays Dementus, a warlord leading a biker horde encountered by Furiosa during her journey through the Wasteland. As the narrative unfolds, audiences are thrust into a gripping tale of survival and conflict, further enriching the immersive world crafted by Miller.
