Doom Patrol to End With Current Fourth Season on HBO Max

HBO Max has pulled the plug on Doom Patrol. It’s been revealed in a new report by THR that the series has been axed alongside fellow DC series Titans as plans continue to change for the future at DC Studios. Fans of Doom Patrol had suspected that the series could be getting canceled as current DC plans are phased out to make way for what James Gunn and Peter Safran have planned for the future of the DCU. But it hasn’t been made official until now with HBO Max confirming the news.

While these will be the final seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol, we are very proud of these series and excited for fans to see their climactic endings,” reads an HBO Max statement addressing the situation. For Doom Patrol, we celebrate showrunner Jeremy Carver and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Chris Dingess and Tamara Becher-Wilkinson. For four seasons, fans have fallen in love with the Titans and Doom Patrol, investing in their trials and tribulations, and in their legendary battles saving the world time and time again.

It’s noted in the THR report that the producers of Doom Patrol had figured that their days were numbered. They had gone ahead and planned for season 4 to have a conclusive ending rather than set up a cliffhanger that likely wouldn’t be resolved. The situation was the same with Titans, which will also have a definitive series finale.

Doom Patrol Is Wrapping Up Its Run

Doom Patrol was a series that was launched to boost subscriber for the DC Universe service which is now defunct. The series moved over to HBO Max where it would continue up to this point. While it also arrived around the same time as Titans, and even features April Bowlby, Brendan Fraser, and Matt Bomer playing characters the played in that show, Doom Patrol is not set in the same universe and is not really a spinoff, focusing on its own unconnected storylines.

In addition to Bowbly, Fraser, and Bomer, the series stars Diane Guerrero, Joivan Wade, Matthew Zuk, Riley Shanahan, and Timothy Dalton. It was developed by Jeremy Carver and follows an unlikely group of superheroes who find a new purpose together after they’d each been shunned by society. Carver released a statement about the show’s cancelation, thanking those for making it possible while still questioning the decision in an amusing way.

Also, what were you smoking?” Carver says in the statement. “To our brilliant cast, indomitable crew, fearless writing staff and, most of all, to our beautiful fans: thank you all the more. You made this a once-in-a-lifetime ride.”
