According to a report from Deadline, the script for Dune: Part Three is already in progress. Additionally, Villeneuve revealed that his next project after the Dune franchise will be an adaptation of the nonfiction book Nuclear War: A Scenario.

Despite the development, the film has not yet been officially greenlit by Warner Bros. Villeneuve has been cautious about discussing a sequel, referring to the script as “barely an embryo” during the opening weekend of Dune: Part Two.

He emphasized that he would only pursue the project if it surpassed the success of its predecessor, which received acclaim from critics as one of the best science fiction thrillers of all time.
