Fast X Director Had to Re-Write the Third Act in Four Days

Fast & Furious prepares for the end. Fast X, the tenth and next installment of the saga, will be the prelude to the final film, which will hit theaters next year to close the main story of one of the highest-grossing franchises of all time, even despite the harsh criticism.

Unfortunately, this last race will have to be run without one of the masterminds behind a big part of the franchise. Before finishing filming on Fast X, director Justin Lin decided to leave the saga, with Louis Leterrier taking over what was left to finish the project on time.

Obviously, taking on such a massive franchise while producing its latest films was no easy feat. In fact, Leterrier confessed to Esquire Middle East that he had to rewrite the entire third act of Fast X in just four days:

“I read the script four times on the plane, and I said I had some ideas, and they said ‘great, because the whole third act is changing. Can you rewrite it tonight?’ I was literally on no sleep. I’d been on no sleep for days. Obviously, this was not going to be set in stone. But I was like, ‘okay, yeah, I’ve got some ideas,’ and started writing. And obviously, since the third act was changing, I needed to change the first act. And when you rewrite the third act, and the first act, the second act has to go. So basically I had to on the fly rebuild the airplane.”
