Exclusive: Writer Joe Russo shares exciting updates on Extraction 3
In an exclusive conversation with GamesRadar+, Joe Russo, co-director of Avengers: Endgame, confirmed his involvement in Netflix’s Extraction 3 as both writer and producer.
He revealed, “Yeah, we’re developing it at the moment, figuring out Chris’s schedule. Sam Hargrave is back directing.”
Russo elaborated on the character of Tyler Rake, stating, “It’s an interesting franchise because he’s a very emotionally wounded character, so there’s good storytelling there I think in respect to his backstory, and, you know, his relationship to violence is one that’s built around self-loathing and guilt. And so, it adds a lot of texture I think, which allows us to tell more stories about him.”
Extraction 2, directed by Sam Hargrave and written by Russo, received positive feedback from both audiences and critics. The sequel, produced by Russo’s AGBO banner and starring Chris Hemsworth, explored new dimensions of Rake’s character and world.
“After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held,” reads the synopsis of Extraction 2.
