Pirates of the Caribbean reboot confirmed by producer Jerry Bruckheimer

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has officially announced plans to reboot the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise in the next movie installment.

In an interview with ComicBook.com during promotion for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Bruckheimer confirmed the reboot, highlighting its ease of production compared to other projects due to not being reliant on specific actors.

“It’s hard to tell. You don’t know, you really don’t know,” Bruckheimer said. “You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know. Because with Top Gun you have an actor [Tom Cruise] who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can’t tell you. But we’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”

Bruckheimer’s revelation comes after The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin disclosed earlier plans for a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Despite initial reservations about the concept’s eccentricity, Disney greenlit the project, but progress was halted by the Writers Guild of America strike.

“We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird. And they did,” Mazin said, via The Los Angeles Times. “And then he wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around.”

Additionally, Bruckheimer had hinted at potential spin-off movies within the Pirates of the Caribbean universe, with one involving Margot Robbie and another featuring a younger cast. The franchise, spanning five films to date, starred Johnny Depp across all installments, with directors including Gore Verbinski, Rob Marshall, and Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg.

The announcement marks an exciting new chapter for the beloved franchise, offering fans the prospect of fresh adventures on the high seas
