‘She got robbed’: Fans fume at Angela Bassett not winning award
The 2023 Oscars, like the previous edition, came with its own controversies that took away some of the shine of what was a great night.
As has been the case in previous several black actors and actresses have been controversially ignored for awards, and this time it was the legendary Angela Bassett who was at the center of it all.
Despite being tipped by many to win the award for Best Supporting Actress, she lost out to Jamie Lee Curtis, who won the award for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
And while some have condemned Angela’s shady reaction, others have also expressed their disappointment towards her loss of the award.
Here are some of the best tweets:
Angela got robbed and im glad she didn’t tap dance and jive for the so called “academy” and showed her true emotions. And shout to @austinbutler for holding her hand and trying to console her..you got robbed too bro

Jamie Lee was excellent as well, but no way near Angela Basset’s outstanding performance. That award is the only gripe I hold over the academy’s selection this time around.

I enjoyed this performance way more than Jamie’s honestly. Hearing how powerful her voice was when I watched this in the theater absolutely blew me away.

Yes, of course.
And don’t get me wrong, she did a really good performance for, what i think, an average marvel movie.— Ryx (@Scythaah) March 14, 2023
