Lionsgate, in association with Stage 6 Films, Subzero Film Entertainment, and Good Chaos, presents SISU – a new Finnish film written and directed by Jalmari Helander. Produced by Petri Jokiranta and executive produced by Mike Goodridge, Gregory Ouanhon, and Antonio Salas, the film stars Jorma Tommila, Aksel Hennie, Jack Doolan, Mimosa Willamo, and Onni Tommila. The title comes from a Finnish word that has no direct English translation, and the film revolves around an unrelenting quest for revenge in the final days of World War II.

During the last desperate days of WWII, a solitary prospector (Jorma Tommila) crosses paths with Nazis on a scorched-earth retreat in northern Finland. When the Nazis steal his gold, they quickly discover that they have just tangled with no ordinary miner.

While there is no direct translation for the Finnish word “sisu”, this legendary ex-commando will embody what sisu means: a white-knuckled form of courage and unimaginable determination in the face of overwhelming odds. And no matter what the Nazis throw at him, the one-man death squad will go to outrageous lengths to get his gold back – even if it means killing every last Nazi in his path.

SISU premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, where it earned a rare perfect rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. After receiving strong reviews, Lionsgate acquired the film for theatrical release on April 28, 2023. The trailer promises intense action and graphic violence, which has already pleased those who have seen it.

According to Lionsgate’s EVP of Acquisitions, Eda Kowan, “SISU is a symphony of outrageous, visceral action and a real crowd-pleaser. We are confident that it will connect with a wider audience.” If the early reviews and trailer are any indication, SISU is sure to deliver an adrenaline-fueled cinematic experience that action fans won’t want to miss.

So mark your calendars for April 28th, 2023, and get ready to experience the full force of SISU in theaters!
